What Your First Lesson Covers

Your first beginner lesson is structured as a gentle, progressive introduction to pickleball. You will start with the basics of holding a paddle correctly and understanding the court layout. From there, your instructor will guide you through the scoring system, legal serves, and the non-volley zone (the kitchen) that makes pickleball so unique. By the end of your first hour, you will be engaging in short rallies and understanding what makes the game so addictive.

  • Correct paddle grip and ready position
  • Court layout, lines, and scoring system
  • Legal serve technique and placement
  • Non-volley zone rules and kitchen strategy
  • Basic groundstrokes: forehand and backhand
  • Your first live rally with the instructor

Your Progression

Building Your Foundation in Sessions 2-6

After your first lesson, the learning curve is steep in the best possible way. Sessions 2 through 6 build on your foundation with more consistent groundstrokes, the third-shot drop, kitchen dink exchanges, and basic doubles positioning. Most beginners reach a 2.5 skill level rating within 6-8 lessons, enabling them to participate in social open play and beginner leagues at local courts.
